As many of you have noticed, we’re taking a short break from the doofyness. Don’t worry about us, we’re just busy with some other stuff. Although it’s safe to say that when we crank this place back up, we won’t be doing daily updates anymore. Too much to do, and the weather finally got nice! Thanks for your patience, and stay tuned!
Wrapping up hoops week, we were going to point you towards this Ron Burgundy moment featuring basketball great Charles Barkley. It’s pretty good. But not as good as Tales of Game’s Barkley, Shut up and Jam: Gaiden. The trailer takes a while to get going, but yes, this is an actual game. Check out the screenshots. Download it. Play it. Live it. Jam it.
While you’re grabbing the file, we recommend you check out Tales of Game’s work-in-progress/”made for some contest in two weeks” title The Sewer Goblet: The Wu-Tang Clan and the Wu-Tang Baby. Can’t say we’ve tried it, but anything that combines the Wu and video games is guaranteed gold. Nay, platinum.
Sticking to the hoops, we have further proof that the internet has made America’s Funniest Home Videos irrelevant. If this clip of some idiot kids on a trampoline was shown on TV, you’d get like ten seconds of action. Here on the internet, that ten seconds of action is followed by a full minute of sad, sad agony. Plenty of time to turn your initial chuckle into a faint trace of pity.
Anybody else remember this one? We were going to categorize it as a doofy classic, but there aren’t enough views out there to justify it. We think the video showed up in 2005 or 2006, but instead of researching it further we’re just going to hit replay. “Get a medic!”
We’re keeping this one quick, as we just got back from shouting ourselves hoarse at Lebron James at the Celtics game. Basketball playoffs plus yet another presidential primary and you get the Barack Obama Basketball Mixtape. For some reason the fact that we may soon have a president who is athletically gifted and not merely a square jogger is pretty exciting.
Oh, if you’ve never been exposed to the magic that is the And1 Mixtape Tour, here’s a quick YouTube video to help you out (and yes, the music featured is another song dipping into your childhood, sampling the Transformers cartoon. It’s called “Be Alert” by 7L & Esoteric).
Popular music is manufactured garbage. Movies are geared towards idiots. Good TV gets lost in the thousand-channel shuffle. Ads riddle magazines beyond the point of decency.
As corporate greed erodes the quality of our traditional sources of entertainment, the time is ripe for the internet to take over as the first stop for pop culture.
All we need is common ground, a reference library that can filter the internet down to the bits everybody should share. A place we like to call DoofyCrap.com.
Found a piece of internet that everybody needs to see? Well instead of forwarding it to your entire address book, send it on down to TheDoof at Doofycrap.com. We'll spread the word.
